Big house. Small house. Barn house. Townhouse. No matter what your home purchase may be, the backyard grill is an essential step in making this new home a refuge for relaxation and a welcoming space for friends and family.
“Seven in 10 U.S. adults and 8 in 10 Canadian adults own at least one grill or smoker, and often individuals make a grill purchase when they buy a new home,” said Jack Goldman, President and CEO, Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA). “Not all homes are the same, and neither are the people who buy them. With grills available in a variety of shapes, sizes, functions and price points, there is an ideal grill for each type of home.”
Consider HPBA’s recommendations for the most ideal grills for 7 types of homeowners:
1. Suburban Homes: For those that just bought that dream home out in the ‘burbs, complete the outdoor living space by adding a built-in-barbecue. It’s the focal point of that best backyard – great for a simple family dinner, or a neighborhood gathering.
2. Downtown Condos and Apartments: No backyard? No problem. Consider a portable grill for weekend hikes or afternoons in your city’s parks. It’s affordable and easily storable.
3. Country Homes: Opting for quiet life of wide open spaces and starry skies? Consider a smoker for low and slow cooking while watching the sun set over the backyard.
4. Townhomes: Living in the city doesn’t mean one can’t partake in the grilling fun. Choose a small electric grill – affordable, compact and ideal for tight quarters, with many of the capabilities of a full-sized grill.
5. City Houses. Nestled in a classic craftsman or mid-century modern on a postage stamp-sized lot? Consider the always classic charcoal grill, for amazing flavor and a delicious aroma that fills the entire backyard – and the neighbor’s, too!
6. Fixer Uppers. If you buy a home with a long list of repairs, time is tight. So, go for a gas grill, simple and convenient. It may also serve as the stove and oven during a kitchen remodel!
