JOB POSTING – HEARTHSTONE HIRING EXPERIENCED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Now in our 40th year of manufacturing in Morrisville, VT, HearthStone Quality Home Heating Products stands as a worldwide leading producer of wood & gas home heating stoves- and now outdoor cooking appliances. With an established tradition of time-tested craftsmanship, our products are widely recognized for style and quality. Hearthstone stoves serve as a beautifully functional centerpiece of households throughout the world. We now have an opening for an experienced Product Development Manager.

SUMMARY- The Product Development Manager oversees the product research and development department, working with a team of skilled engineers. He/she is responsible for coordinating the complete development of new products, supporting continuous improvement objectives, and for pioneering next generation technologies. The Product Development Manager works closely with all departments to define product specifications and objectives, maintain timelines and project completion, and to foster a culture of innovation.


RESPONSIBILITIES

o Hold overall accountability for all product development projects

o Maintain compliance and anticipate future changes with industry standards and regulations

o Investigate applicability of emerging technologies and trends

o Guide activities and goals of the product development team

o Balance innovation with a deadline-driven approach

o Issue continuous staff feedback - identifying training/personal development opportunities

o Provide design and engineering support on an as-needed basis

o Evaluate and approve designs based on quality, functionality, manufacturability, and cost

o Manage the product improvement and engineering change process

o Ensure engineering software, equipment, and tools are up-to-date

o Develop engineering best practices for consistent and accurate work

o Other responsibilities as assigned

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

o Strong communication, problem solving, and decision making skills

o Proven project management experience

o Established mechanical engineering aptitude

o Fluency with 3D modeling and detailing software, SolidWorks preferred

o Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

o General mechanical and metalworking skills preferred

o Skilled in leading teams

o SAP or other ERP software experience preferred

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in related field and 2+ years in a supervisory role, or 5+ years of experience in related field with increasing responsibility

Position Description:

This position is located in Reno, NV and the ideal candidate will have knowledge of gas, wood, and pellet stove installation.  This employee will report to our office every morning to be given the installation schedule for the day and load up assigned company trucks with fireplaces, stove pipe, and all other equipment they may need.  Installers will spend their days traveling from job to job in their company trucks installing fireplaces throughout Northern Nevada and California.  Our installers work in teams of 2-3 people Monday-Friday, with occasional optional Saturdays, and report directly to one of the owners of the company.

 

Essential Job Functions: 

·         Work with another individual(s) to install electric, gas, wood, and pellet stoves/inserts in new construction and existing homes

·         Install pipe from connection point to stove

·         Develop an in-depth understanding of all hearth products and the installation process

·         Maintain superior communication other employees and customers to insure installations are completed timely and meet quality standards

·         Complete job specific paperwork when necessary

·         Read and understand documents related to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and installation manuals

·         Communicate with builders and residential customers professionally

·         Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

·         Must be able to lift 50+ pounds

·         Physical abilities of excessive bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, climbing, roof work, and use of power tools

·         Be able to work individually or with other team members and effectively communicate with other staff

·         Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record

·         Must be able to pass a drug test

·         OSHA 10 certification preferred

·         Hands on mechanical experience a plus

·         Prior installation experience preferred but not required

JOB POSTING – DESIGN ENGINEER 

Hearthstone Stoves 

Department: Product Development


OVERVIEW:   The Design Engineer works as a part of a team to develop new stove products, supporting continuous improvement objectives, and to pioneering next generation technologies.   He/she directs, coordinates and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Supports development of next generation wood, gas, and pellet stoves that meet or exceed industry regulations
o Fabricates functional prototypes and conducts performance testing and evaluation
o Evaluates new and improved designs for quality, functionality, manufacturability, and cost
o Maintains working knowledge of industry standards and regulations, reacting to changes affecting design and production
o Creates and maintains 3D and 2D product documentation 
o Supports product certification testing and documentation
o Performs quality testing on production units- tabulating and documenting data
o Creates and maintains materials and engineering BOMs in SAP
o Provides manufacturing support for existing products- including communicating/training for design changes

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: 
o Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
o Strong aptitude in mechanical engineering 
o Experienced in up to 5 years of applied design engineering work;  or 5+ years of related experience
o Fluent in 3D modeling and detailing software- SolidWorks preferred
o Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
o Experienced in project management with strong planning /organizational skills and comparative results analysis
o Able to prioritize tasks with an appropriate sense of urgency;  maintaining consistent follow through to meet production needs according to schedules
o Fluent in various communication and interpersonal skills
o Confident in excellent problem solving, analysis, and decision making abilities.
o Strong ability to work and learn as well as part of a team
o Skilled in general mechanical and metalworking functions 

Physical Requirements:  Position includes occasional lifting up to 50 LBS.  Work is located in a manufacturing facility where employees may be subject to loud noise, moving machinery, and various production hazards.

· Read and understand documents related to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and installation manuals

Requirements/Qualifications:

· Positive attitude and welcoming demeanor

· Prior sales and customer service experience a plus

· Previous employment in the hearth industry preferred but not required

· Be able to work individually or with other team members and effectively communicate with other staff

· Ability to read blueprints a plus

· Strong mathematical skills

· Must be able to pass a drug test

· OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required
